Grade 1 students create potted plant arrangements for Mothers’ Day

On Mothers’ Day, mothers of Kamsack Grade 1 students received flowering plants that were potted by their children in glass bowls.

Thirty-five Grade 1 students from the Victoria School in Kamsack visited Wayne and Laura Lomenda of Grandpa’s Garden and Greenhouse on Friday.

While some of the students kicked soccer balls on the green grass, others made chalk drawings on the cement garage floor and a third group was taken to a potting table where they filled glass bowls with soil to plant two blooming plants that each one was able to take home to his or her mother for Mother’s Day.

The excursion included the feeding of bottles of milk to two three-day-old calves, and a hot dog lunch.

The Lomendas provided everything, the plants, soil, glass containers and lunch, said Chelsey Williams, one of the teachers accompanying the students. “We thank them for their generosity.”
