SASKATOON – Firefighters battled an industrial fire Monday morning on Quebec Ave. No injuries to fire fighters or civilians were reported.
At 10:26 a.m. on May 8, the Saskatoon Fire Department got a call about heavy smoke in the area of 1900 block of Quebec Ave. One fire engine was dispatched and the first arriving fire crews found heavy smoke and visible flames in a metal recycling pile. Two additional fire engines, one ladder truck, and the Battalion Chief were dispatched to the scene.
Firefighters used the ladder truck as well as a large volume ground monitor. Traffic detours were set up on Quebec Avenue to protect water supply hoses running across the road. Fire crews worked with equipment operators on site to use heavy equipment to open up the pile allowing access to fully extinguish the fire.
Firefighters brought the fire under control at 11:19 a.m. but remained on scene extinguishing small hot spots. By 1:30 p.m. the traffic restrictions were removed and the incident was concluded.
The fire department says that the cause of the fire is undetermined and there’s no damage estimate yet.
