Teddy Bear Clinic celebrates Immunization Awareness Week

NIAW was recognized in 2024 the week of April 22-30. Saskatchewan’s campaign theme is “Immunization for a Healthier Future”.

ASSINIBOIA - Christine Printz, Public Health Nurse in Assiniboia, partnered with co-worker Heather to host the annual Teddy Bear Clinic April 27 in Assiniboia.

“We hosted this event at the Assiniboia Early Childhood Coalition’s open play time that takes place every Monday morning. Children were invited to bring their teddy bear, baby, etc. for a health check, and regular ‘vaccines’,” said Printz.

The health nurse duo said the event is held to celebrate and bring awareness to National Immunization Awareness Week. NIAW is an annual event to recognize the importance of immunization in Canada to increase public awareness that many diseases are effectively and safely controlled by immunization, which reduces the burden of illness in our communities for everyone.

While Printz is new to hosting the activity, she knows that it also took place in 2023.

NIAW activities across Canada are intended to shed light on the importance of staying up to date on recommended vaccinations so that everyone can have the chance to live healthier lives protected against preventable diseases.
