CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 23 calls from Nov. 14 to Nov. 21, some of which included:
- one 911 Act call,
- one abandoned vehicle,
- three animal complaints,
- one general public assist,
- two false alarms,
- two failures to appear in court,
- two Fire Prevention Act calls,
- two mischiefs,
- one theft over $5,000,
- two thefts under $5,000,
- four suspicious persons calls,
- two traffic offenses, and
- one vehicle collision.
Chocolate bar thief
On Nov. 14, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a report of theft of chocolate bars from the Gateway Co-op food store in Canora. A male suspect was identified by police and the investigation is ongoing. The Canora/Sturgis RCMP work closely with the Gateway Co-op. If you decide to shoplift you will be caught on camera, identified, and could face criminal charges of theft under $5,000.
Busy shoplifter
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were called to a business in Preeceville on Nov. 14 for a report of shoplifting. A woman was caught on camera stealing numerous items. A female suspect was identified. The investigation is ongoing.
Important lesson
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a 911 call to assist a man with an issue he was having in his house on Nov. 15. Police attended the call and learned the man had a special urinal installed that he was unfamiliar with. Police worked on the issue and were able to provide information to the man on the proper use of his new urinal.
Cat burglar?
On Nov. 18, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a missing cat call in Canora. The caller reported her cat ran away and broke into an abandoned house down the street. The caller requested police break down the door, however alternative options were discussed in lieu of breaking any doors down.
Snowmobile theft
The Canora/Sturgis investigated a theft of snowmobile from the RM of Preeceville on Nov. 18. The caller reported their 2020 black Summit Snowmobile was stolen in the past four months. The investigation is ongoing.
