Canora RCMP: Man hit with car after street corner argument

A driver of a white Nissan Rogue got into an argument with a man. The driver struck the man with the vehicle and fled the scene.

CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 49 calls from July 10 to July 18, some of which included:

  • two 911 Act calls,
  • one animal call,
  • two assaults,
  • one assault with a weapon,
  • one breach of peace,
  • two bylaw offences,
  • one Coroners Act call,
  • one dangerous driving causing bodily harm,
  • one disturbing the peace,
  • one failure to comply with conditions,
  • one false alarm,
  • one fraud,
  • one Mental Health Act call,
  • three mischiefs,
  • two other provincial calls,
  • one sexual assault,
  • five suspicious persons,
  • two thefts,
  • 15 traffic offenses,
  • one traffic collision,
  • one uttering threats,
  • two wellbeing checks, and
  • one prisoner.

Double assault

On July 13, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a disturbance in the RM of Good Lake. Police investigated and two individuals were charged with assault.

Reckless end to argument

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a dangerous driving complaint on July 14 at 6:12 p.m. in Canora at Third Street and Second Avenue East. Police investigated and learned that a man and a driver of a white Nissan Rogue got into an argument. The driver of the Nissan Rogue struck the man with the vehicle and fled the scene. The man received serious injuries and was taken to hospital. Police are asking for witnesses of the incident to contact the Canora RCMP.

No-show in court

On July 14, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP arrested a man in Canora on an outstanding warrant of arrest for failing to appear in Court. The man was remanded into custody.

Fraud

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a fraud on July 16. A local business in the RM of Good Lake received a phone call from an unknown man who gave a false credit card number. Police continue to investigate.

Toy dart attack

On July 18, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP investigated a drive by shooting of sorts in Canora. A man was walking down the street when a white SUV pulled up to him and he was shot with a toy dart. The SUV sped away. Suspects and a motive are unknown at this time.

Unwanted sleeping visitor

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on July 18 to a break and enter in Buchanan. Police attended the call and located an intoxicated man sleeping in the caller’s bed. The man was arrested and charged with break and enter, failure to comply with undertaking conditions and failure to comply with a probation order. The man was remanded into custody, and was known to the caller.

Didn’t comply with conditions

The Canora/Sturgis RCMP arrested a man in Canora for failing to comply with conditions of his conditional sentence order on July 18. The man was remanded into custody.
