CANORA — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 42 calls from Jan. 9 to Jan. 16, some of which included:
- three 911 Act calls,
- one assault,
- two break and enters,
- one Firearms Act call,
- one fraud under $5,000,
- two Mental Health Act calls,
- two mischiefs under $5,000,
- three other provincial calls,
- two roadside suspensions,
- one suspicious person,
- three thefts under $5,000,
- one traffic collision,
- 18 traffic offenses,
- one wellbeing check and
- one prisoner.
Farmyard theft, mischief
On Jan. 14, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a theft and mischief call at a farmyard in the RM of Keys along Highway 9. Video footage shows a man driving a Dodge truck into the yard. The man stole tools, gasoline, and damaged an air hose and grain auger. The investigation is ongoing.
Wellbeing check
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on Jan. 13 to check on the wellbeing of a woman in Canora after being denied an insurance claim. Police spoke to the woman and learned there was a miscommunication and further police involvement was not required.
Drunken brawl
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received multiple calls for a fight in progress between four women inside a bar on Jan. 12. Police were dispatched to another call at the same location where a different caller reported a group of seven were attempting to damage her vehicle with a shovel. Drunkenness was a contributing factor. The investigation is ongoing.
Unruly patient
On Jan. 11, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to the Canora Hospital for a disturbance involving a patient. Police went to the hospital and kept the peace until the patient calmed down.
Mistaken call for help
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched to a theft call in Sturgis on Jan. 11. The caller reported someone stole their alcohol and cigarettes. The caller made a second call later in the morning reporting a man was inside her residence. Police determined no thefts occurred and that alcohol was contributing factor to the call for service.
Tracks in snow help police
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received two calls on Jan. 11 about multiple thefts in Canora. Both callers followed tracks in the snow to a home located on Fourth Avenue East in Canora. A suspect was identified and one of the items stolen was recovered. A blue block heater cord is still missing.
