CANORA/STURGIS — The Canora/Sturgis RCMP responded to 28 calls from April 13 to April 21, some of which included: one traffic collision, four 911 Act, one missing person, three assaults, one failing to comply with conditions, one criminal harassment, five traffic offences, two mischiefs, one fraud, one suspicious person/vehicle, one break and enter, one truck theft, and six other provincial incidents.
Cat phone
On April 13, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a report of a dropped 911 call. Police attended a residence in Buchanan and were told by the homeowners their cat accidentally called 911.
Open door
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on April 14 to a report of a possible break and enter at a business in Canora. Police attended and were told a basement door was mysteriously left open and was swinging in the wind. The building was cleared by police and no evidence was found to support a theft or intrusion into the building.
Stolen truck
A blue F250 truck was reported stolen in the RM of Buchanan on April 17. The truck was recovered abandoned on Highway 47 south of Preeceville. Police continue to investigate.
Jumpy parent
On April 18, the Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a child custody complaint. The complainant reported his former spouse was 12 minutes late dropping off their children. Police spoke with the complainant and it was determined that further police involvement was not required.
In a hurry
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP were dispatched on April 18 to a complaint of dangerous driving. A grey Chevy short box truck was reported to have passed the complainant going approximately 180 KPH on Highway No. 9, travelling northbound from Sturgis to Preeceville. ATM violence
The Canora/Sturgis RCMP received a complaint of mischief to the ATM at the Cross Roads Credit Union in Canora on April 19. Police continue to investigate.
Bridge batteries gone
On April 19, a theft was reported to the Canora/Sturgis RCMP. Police learned batteries were stolen from equipment at the bridge work site north of Canora on Highway 9. Any assistance from the public would be appreciated.
Communication breakdown?
A woman was reported missing by her family to the Canora/Sturgis RCMP on April 20. Police learned the woman had left the Hyas area but was safe and sound and was not actually missing.
