CCS receives significant boost thanks to $50,000 donation

Principal Derek Serdachny accepted the cheque on behalf of Canora Composite School, and made it clear that the funding will have a large and positive impact for the school.

CANORA - Dec. 20 was the last day of school in 2024 for Canora Composite School students. To add to the excitement, Terry Tyson of Grain Millers in Yorkton was there to make a $50,000 cheque presentation to the CCS nutrition program.

“We turn oats into food,” said Tyson. “One of our main goals is to help connect kids to food and agriculture. This project does that.”

Principal Derek Serdachny accepted the donation on behalf of CCS, and made it clear that the funding will have a large and positive impact for the school.

“This is the first year for our large commercial kitchen,” said Serdachny. “Our teachers have put in a lot of time to make that happen. We have enjoyed some of the benefits of our kitchen for the Christmas dinner today.”

Serdachny said the Grain Millers donation will be used to make further needed purchases for the commercial kitchen, as well as adding items such as cereal, milk, yogurt and more to the school’s nutrition program.

“We believe we now have one of the best commercial kitchens in the Good Spirit School Division. This requires the dedicated support of the surrounding community, including Shaune Beatty, GSSD superintendent, and Shannon Leson, board member, who have joined us today. Our teachers were looking for improvements to our kitchen, and this support will help make that happen.”
