CANORA - The Canora Cougars senior boys volleyball team came up big when it mattered most, finishing first at the Canora Senior Boys Volleyball Tournament on Oct. 28.
In addition to Canora, the other teams entered in the four-team tournament were Sturgis 1, Sturgis 2 and Kelvington.
The Cougars won the final, taking out Sturgis 1, which turned out to be sweet retribution, according to co-coach Ally Rock.
“Canora won all but one match, losing to Sturgis 1 in the round robin. But we redeemed ourselves by beating them in the final.”
Rock said the Cougars were full marks for the first-place finish.
“Our team played very well this tournament. Our serving and receiving was some of the best we've seen all year and our attacking was strong.”
Kelvington earned third place in the tournament, followed by Sturgis 2.
Rock said the Cougars have had a busy and enjoyable season to this point, playing in tournaments in Saskatoon, Melville, Esterhazy, and Sturgis.
“Our home tournament was our best finish so far, but we also placed first in our pool in Melville.”
Rock and co-coach Jodie Kowalyshyn are enjoying their second season at the helm of the Cougars.
“We are lucky to continue getting to work with such a great group of kids!”
With the home tournament in the rear-view mirror, the Cougars shift their focus to conference playoffs coming up in Kipling on Nov. 11, “which will determine the rest of our season.”
