Invermay and area residents savour Canada Day festivities

The celebration included door prizes, a 50/50 draw and entertainment by Bethany Ogden, Invermay's TeleMiracle performer.

INVERMAY - A celebration of Canada Day was held in Invermay on Canada Day.

“The enthusiastic gathering celebrated the Community of Invermay from its pioneer beginnings to the present,” said Mike Kaminski, Village of Invermay deputy mayor.

Greetings were brought by Dana Jack, administrator for the RM of Invermay; Kaminski; and Barb Dawe, Golden Age Club vice-president.

The program presentations made were: the beginnings and evolution of the RM since its beginning, the creation and development of the Invermay Agricultural Society, both by Dana Jack; the early settlements and beginnings of Invermay by Mike Kaminski; the creation and growth of the seniors’ Golden Age Club by Margaret Knight, and the Invermay Cemetery by Darlene Graham. Reference information was gleaned from many history books, but mainly The Invermay Story by Oscar Olson.

Student projects (Grades 1 to 8) about Invermay and its history were displayed and winners were recognized with gift certificates.

The Canada Day lunch was enjoyed by all in attendance and followed with a taste of the Canada Day cake which was cut by Steve and Lena Potorieko, honorary lifetime members of the Golden Age Club.

“The celebration ended with door prizes, a 50/50 draw and entertainment by Bethany Ogden, our TeleMiracle performer,” said Kaminski.

The celebration was sponsored by Heritage Canada, the RM of Invermay, the Village of Invermay and the Golden Age Club.
