Responding to local concerns about Cote FN using the Canora garbage dump, Canora Mayor Mike Kwas said it works out well for both communities.

CANORA - The Canora Courier was approached with concerns regarding trucks from Cote FN regularly dropping off their garbage at the Canora dump recently, especially since Canora residents have to pay for a new garbage facility.

Mayor Mike Kwas has indicated that both communities are benefitting from this arrangement.

“Cote is also having to construct a new dump,” said Mayor Kwas. “And they approached us if they can dump their fill, which is mainly dirt, at our dump. They are paying the town to do this and it will also help us when we have to start filling in our old dump with fill.”

Chief Administrative Officer Michael Mykytyshyn added that garbage originating outside the community is charged a higher rate and generates more revenue to cover the cost of landfill operations.
