Pair of athletes represent Canora at cross-country provincials

Kayden Harder (U16 boys) and William Sliva (U15 boys) representing Canora Composite School, coached by Leona Kitchen and Thomas Lowes.

CANORA - The 2024 Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association Cross Country Running Provincial Championship was held on Saturday, Oct. 12 at Carlton Trail Ski Club's Dixon Hills near Humboldt, with Kayden Harder (U16 boys) and William Sliva (U15 boys) representing Canora Composite School. They were joined by coaches Leona Kitchen and Thomas Lowes.

“It is a gorgeous trail through bushes, up and down rolling hills, and around a pond,” reported the coaches. “It is the true definition of cross country running.”

William Sliva ran 3km first at 12:25 p.m. and placed 95th out of 107 runners with a personal best time of 14:38.

Kayden Harder ran the 4km distance at 1:15 p.m. and placed 74th out of a field of 98 with a time of 20:24.

“It was a little cooler day but the track was quite sheltered from the wind,” said the coaches.  “Both boys did their best, had great races and were very happy with their times. As coaches it is very rewarding to have athletes attend provincials and doing their very best is all we can expect!

“It was a fantastic season and we can't wait to get running again next year.”
