CANORA — The many visitors to Canora for the Live & Play Street Festival on Aug. 19 were entertained with a wide variety of live music, featuring everything from country and polka, to classic rock and disco, to today’s hits.
Things got rolling with The Zayshley Band, quite familiar to Canora audiences from numerous appearances at previous community events. The Zayshley’s once again played their popular old-time brand of country and polka favourites, along with their familiar friendly banter with the audience between songs. Their playlist included Before the Next Teardrop Falls, Delta Dawn and Maple Sugar.
Rocketbilly were next to the stage. As the name suggests, they combine classic and modern rockabilly music. Band members effortlessly made a connection with the audience, while performing well-known tunes such as Rollin’ in my Sweet Baby’s Arms, Rockin’ in the USA, Hot Rod Lincoln and Rebel Rouser, the instrumental favourite made famous by Duane Eddy.
The headline act for the evening cabaret was Odd Man Out, featuring 70s class rock and disco, as well as hits of today. Songs performed by this energetic party band included Dangerous, Brown Eyed Girl, You Shook Me All Night Long, and I Will Survive, the disco favourite made popular in the '70s.
