In a game dominated by pitching, the Canora Supers opened the 2024 SESBL season with a 3-2 loss in Yorkton against the Parkland Pirates on May 16.

CANORA - The Canora Supers opened the 2024 season in Yorkton on Thursday, May 16 as four-time defending South East Saskatchewan Baseball League champions against the Parkland Pirates.

It was a night dominated by the pitchers as Kody Rock of the Supers and Evan McCubbing of the Pirates both were on their games, according to Greg Andreychuk, Supers player/manager. Unfortunately the Supers offence stalled, and the Pirates were able to capitalize on their chances in a 3-2 Supers loss.

“Rock was the player of the game as he tossed six innings, allowing three runs (one earned), five hits with 12 strikeouts to finish as the tough luck losing pitcher,” said Andreychuk. “He also contributed on offense with a double, walk, run batted in and a stolen base to fill the stat sheet.”

The rest of the offence could only generate three hits as Shae Peterson missed a home run by only a few feet with a double off the wall, while Nathaniel Minhinnick and Derek Palagian each had a single.

“Former Langenburg Legends Jordan Auger and Tyrel Thorpe each made their Supers debuts on this evening,” added Andreychuk. “The Legends are taking the year off from the league, and both veteran players still have the desire to keep playing. Thorpe caught the game while Auger played outfield.”

The next game on the schedule for the Supers is on June 5 when the Yorkton Marlins make the trip north for a tilt in Canora at Al Sapieha Field.
