Kam-Crete Ltd., a significant business in Kamsack for the past 60 years, is scheduled to close its doors.

KAMSACK — Kam-Crete Ltd., one of the most significant businesses in Kamsack, is now in the process of closing its doors in the community.

“It was a tough decision to close the Kam-Crete business but it was a decision that the time had come,” said Gordie Broda of Prince Albert, president of the Broda Group of Companies.

“For over 60 years our business has served Kamsack and the surrounding area,” Broda said. “We worked with a lot of great people and great organizations and we were part of many local projects over all those years.

“As a family, we proudly supported many community initiatives and always strived to make Kamsack a better community that we were proud to be a part of,” he said. “We are confident that a new business will rise up to serve the community to fulfil the needs of the Kamsack and area marketplace.”

“After 60 years of operation, the Broda Group Limited Partnership has made the difficult decision to close our doors on the Kamsack operation known as Kam-Crete Ltd.,” said a release issued by Broda. “We will complete all current work on hand that has been committed to, but we will not be taking on any new work or business effective immediately.

“As time has moved on, we have seen many of our staff grow with us and reach that fine age to retire in and around the area. And with our current staff, we have key individuals now telling us their day is coming in the not-too-distant future and slowing down on their current responsibilities and working to retirement is what they want to do. Putting all this together, as well as other key business factors, we reached the decision that it is time to close the Kam-Crete operation.”

The release said that from the business’s humble beginnings, Cas and Marie Broda, who had created, fostered and grew the business, made Kamsack their home and built a family and a business around it.

“Providing opportunity and employment to many in the community, their vision and courage spawned the growth and expansion of the Boda Group into one of the largest and most significant Heavy Civil Construction companies in Western Canada,” the release said. “Since the initial guidance and steady direction, the Broda Group has continued to build and succeed in the industry.

“In building this organization, we relied on many great families and dedicated individuals along the way and many of them came from Kamsack and area.

“We plan to follow a defined process in our approach to selling the assets,” it said. “All items will be sold in a prepared auction sale scheduled for May 6 and 7, 2025 that will be managed by our sales process partner Ritchie Bros. Auctioneering. All land, assets, buildings and properties will be sold in a fair live auction process. We expect significant interest as we maintained a strong fleet of equipment and we serviced a strong economic market area.”

Addressing the business’s current employees, the release said “we wish you the best in retirement if that is your choice. For those wanting to stay working, we have opened the door to work on other divisions within the Broda Group corporate business family. If this does not fit your plans we thank you and wish you all the best in your future endeavours.

“To all past and current employees, we thank you for all your endless days of working with us and we thank your families for their support.

“We want to thank all the people in the Kamsack community and the surrounding area including the Cote First Nation, the Keeseekoose First Nation, The Key First Nation, the Town of Kamsack, the Duck Mountain Provincial Park, the surrounding communities and the local farming and business community for the years of support and for allowing us to fulfil their infrastructure and construction needs. We are also thankful for the relationships that were created along the way.”
