KAMSACK — According to an SJHL game report, the Broda Sportsplex was packed with 525 people attending the Yorkton Terriers and Melfort Mustangs game on Oct. 28. The game was close with both teams battling to secure their victory.
Colton Koran of the Terriers opened the scoring at 8:13 with the only goal of the first period.
In the second, Logan Belton of the Mustangs hit the back of the net at 9:58 with the only goal of the period.
The teams traded goals in the second period, with Bo Eisner giving Melfort its only lead of the game at the 3:55 mark. But less than five minutes later, Dylan Ruptash tied the score for Yorkton, and sent the game into overtime.
Clay Sleeva gave Terriers fans plenty to cheer about in overtime, scoring the game winner at the 4:57 mark.
In the goaltending department, James Venne of the Mustangs faced off against Blake Sittler of Yorkton. Both goalies made several key saves to keep their teams in the game
The game was not without its share of penalties, as both teams found themselves serving time in the penalty box throughout the match. The Melfort Mustangs accrued a total of 12 minutes in the box, while the Yorkton Terriers received 10 minutes.
The stars of the game awards went to James Venne of the Mustangs and Clay Sleeva (21) of the Yorkton Terriers.
The event also featured a raffle and puck drop for various items, including four tickets to a Winnipeg Jets game, a $250 Sas Kam Sportsman gift card, a signed Yorkton Terriers Jersey, and some Melfort Mustangs merchandise. The night also encouraged kids to dress up for the Halloween season to win a costume contest.
The game was close, exhilarating, and well-played by both teams. capturing the high spirits and excitement of the fans. Both teams displayed their skills and determination in what was an exciting game of junior hockey.
