KAMSACK — The Kamsack Volunteer Fire Department was called to two fires on Cote First Nation that had erupted on two consecutive Saturdays in mid-February.
On Feb. 15, the fire department was called at 7:37 a.m. by the RCMP to a fire in Badgerville, according to Ken Thompson, fire chief.
“When we arrived, we saw the house with smoke coming out of an open door and through an east window,” he said.
The fire was quickly extinguished.
Although the inside was damaged, the house was left standing, he said, adding that it is believed that the building had been unoccupied.
The fire originated in the living room near the front door, he said. The cause is unknown.
Six firefighters spent about two hours at the blaze.
The following Saturday, Feb. 22, an unknown person called at 6:30 p.m., alerting the department to a fire in a mobile home on the reserve.
“We poured water on the structure, but it was impossible to save it,” Thompson said.
No one was at home at the time of the fire, he said. After extinguished the fire, the firefighters returned to the fire hall at about 9:45 p.m.
