A retirement party was held for Vivian Talbot on Sat., May 4 at the Dubuc Hut hosted by her family. Approx. 50-60 family and friends attended. The Hut was decorated with funny sayings about age and retirement. There was excellent music supplied by Judy Westman, Bob Leduc, Ruth Datema and Peter Oystrick, all friends of the honored guest. People danced, visited and enjoyed a delicious lunch. Congratulations to Vivian on 29 ½ years working for the Credit Union. We all appreciate your hard work and dedication. Hopefully, now you will have time to relax and enjoy retirement years.
It is very unusual for Mary Nagy and Mary Forsberg to miss the monthly potluck suppers, but they missed the one in May. They motored to Grayson to attend their Senior's Invitational Card Party and cold plate Supper. The Marys reported a fine afternoon of cards and renewing friendships with those in attendance. Mary Forsberg was the lucky winner of the 50/50 draw.
Sandra Forsberg was home from Saskatoon to visit with her Mom for a few days and celebrate Mother's Day. She was one of the many shoppers that went garage saling on Saturday.
Congratulations to the Fuchs and Nagy families, both formerly from the Dubuc community, on the arrival of a bouncing baby boy, Cooper James Thomas Bear-Fuchs, born on May 10 to Lauren Fuchs and Cody Bear. Welcoming him home are first time grandparents, Raquel and Tommy Bear of Whitewood/Ochap, Lorne (Cindy) Fuchs of Esterhazy and Donna (Brian) Kerr Sparrowhawk, also of Esterhazy; first time great-grandparents, Gail Fuchs and Trina/Lloyd Nagy all of Esterhazy; and manyexcited aunties and uncles.
Some of the former curling greats (at local area bonspiels a few years back) meet 2-3 times a year to refresh their friendship, share a few jokes as they did in the past at bonspiel smokers, and enjoy a meal together. They have often met in Melville but this time they chose the BS Bar in downtown Dubuc! Attending this time were: Virginia Plosz, Leona Pinno, Dorothy Wastrodowski, Sandra Powell, Eleanor Kormos and, Dubuc's own, Melba McAlpine.
Susan Powell received a great surprise on Mother's Day weekend when son, Morgan, unexpectedly called to say he was enroute from Toronto, ON to Saskatoon and could meet for a meal in Yorkton. Susan and Leon readily complied and they had a lovely visit on Saturday for Brunch. Morgan is currently employed driving around between cities and towns photographing the streets, etc. so we can google map directions and distances on line and also use our GPS's.
This little village was a busy place last Saturday. The annual flea market/garage sale weekend happened at the Hut again with the seniors having a table and also selling coffee and lunch. They rented out tables to other entrepreneurs as well: Eva Huber; Lorraine Toth and daughter, Andrea Rix and children; Leona Kaczur; Audrey Neilsen; Bun Flick and daughter, Cindy Degenhardt and family; Lindsay Ackroyd and daughter, Sophie Rausch. Out and about town were several more garages full of treasures and bargains, of course: Ellwood's (estate sale), Herperger's, Thiele's, Nagy's (moving sale), and Kerr's. The weather co-operated somewhat and everyone reported good sales and great visiting.
Chris Topliss from Yorkton brought her grandsons, Hayden and Nathan, down on Saturday to have a visit with Auntie Vivian and Uncle Jim Talbot, Auntie Irene and Uncle Murray Bawden and cousins, Julie, Paisley, Keaton and Kathryn Duchek.
We received sad news of the passing of Ruth Hedstrom, widow of George Hedstrom, from Broadview and formerly of Dubuc. Ruth was born Nov. 6, 1923 and died May 11 at 89 years of age. Ruth joined the Dubuc community when she married George in 1948. They farmed and raised their family in the Round Lake district eventually retiring into Broadview. Predeceased by hubby, George, in 1999 and only son, Doug, in 1980. Sympathy of Dubuc and community to: daughters, Valerie Hedstrom (Rick Dowdall), of Victoria, BC and Gail (Steve) Kearney of Broadview; granddaughter, Tami (Guy) Bodnaryk and children, Cody and Jacy from Thompson, MB; grandson, Joel (Gracy) Kearney of Yangon, Myanmar; two sisters, Ida Johnson and Mildred (Emil) Gustafson all of Maple Ridge, BC. Following a funeral service in Broadview on May 16, interment took place in the Swedish Cemetery, a mile North of Dubuc.
Friends and family of Nina and Earle Moller joined them at coffee row on Tuesday morning to celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary. Earle and Nina were married May 11, 1948 in Bangor United Church. They shared an incident from their wedding. The wedding had begun when a train passed through the village rattling the church building and blowing its whistle. The service was halted because no one could hear the minister anyway, with some of the congregation even going outside to watch the train. When the train was gone and everyone had gathered again, the minister began conducting the wedding again - starting right over from the beginning!
The young couple must have wondered if they would ever get hitched, but hitched they got and it has lasted over 65 years so far. Out of town guests at coffee row were: their daughter, Heather, and hubby, Jeff Beck, from London, ON.; Stuart and Darlene Stevenson of Stockholm; Sharon Tabbernor, Spy Hill; Lloyd and Judy Clauson and Ed Freed and Phyllis Augustus, all from Yorkton; Alan and Betty Willway, Sunset Beach, Crooked Lake who joined about 30 locals/regulars to enjoy a lovely carrot cake with their "free" coffee.
Congratulations, best wishes and thanx so much, Nina and Earle, for the privilege of celebrating with you. May you have a very happy, healthy year ahead.
