Elaine Brown, office manager at Stamatinos Leland Campbell LLP, has been selected as the Yorkton Chamber of Commerce Employee of the Year.
Brown's title of office manager doesn't capture the full scope of the work she does at the law office, says Rick Leland, one of the firm's partners. She handles accounts, deals in real estate, maintains the business's computers, and even acts as the office handyman using her own toolbox.
"She's kind of a jack of all trades."
Brown started at the firm 21 years ago as a bookkeeper and gradually added on new duties as they were required.
"It's definitely been a learning curve, I can tell you that," says Brown.
Brown has been an extremely dependable employee who has kept the office running smoothly for more than two decades, says Leland.
"Most of the time it's not that we need her to do something. It's that she comes and tells us it's done."
The award was presented at a gala dinner hosted by the Chamber of Commerce on May 4 in honor of the 25 nominees and all dedicated employees in Yorkton.
Brown says she was surprised and a little uncomfortable to be under the spotlight.
"I don't like to be centered out, but I was honored.
"The guys here [at Stamatinos Leland Campbell] are really good," she adds.
"They do go out of their way to give you praise for stuff you've done right, but it's still really good to be singled out and appreciated after all those years."
"We've been honored to have her for a lot of years," says Leland. "It's time that she was honored."
