Not Guilty Plea

A former Yorkton gynecologist has pleaded not guilty to sexually assaulting numerous patients between 2001 and 2008.

Dr. Mohammed Haque was originally charged on February 2 of this year after six women came former with allegations. During a press conference at that time, police suggested there may be more victims and asked others to come forward. At a court appearance May 30, the Crown revealed an additional 10 charges.

There have been a number of adjournments mostly dealing with the logistics of disclosure by long distance between Yorkton and London, Ontario where the 72-year-old retired doctor now resides.

At a hearing October 20, defence attorney George Green, appearing by telephone from London entered not guilty pleas to all 16 charges and elected trial by Queen’s Bench judge alone.

The case was again adjourned over scheduling of a preliminary hearing. Crown and defence estimate a two to three week prelim and are still negotiating the number of witnesses, which will be a minimum of 18.

A hearing has been set for October 28 to schedule the pre-trial.
