It was evening September 15th 1951 when Mayor Clarence G. Langrill pulled a switch at the Power House that put into operation Yorkton’s new streamlined street lighting system. J.R. Sarsfield , Business Manager and J.W. Burton, Public Relations Officer represented Saskatchewan Power Corporation.   Present were City Clerk, Howard Jackson. City Engineer H.M.Bailey, Aldermen W.J. Johnston and Amos Border, District Superintendent H.W. Allen, Plant Superintendent H. Linfoot, and power plant employees. The lighting system was the first in the province to be installed on the government power lines. The 25 foot high aluminum-like poles, 102 of them were equipped with luminaires 20 times more efficient than the old ones. As soon as it gets dark, the lights switched on automatically. Both the Power Corporation and the City of Yorkton were proud of this achievement. From Dr. Harold and Winnie Wilkinson Fonds.
