Among other postcards, photos, drawings and articles, this postcard of the very early years of St. Mary’s Ukrainian Catholic Church and the Monastery in Yorkton, is included in a publication put together by Staff and Pupils of Simpson School entitled Yorkton 1905-1955. Ukrainian immigration to Canada was largely agrarian, and many entered on the free homestead lands in the Yorkton region, with very few settling in towns. Built in 1914, St. Mary’s Church was impressive architecturally, but held only about 200 people, until 1955 when it was enlarged to meet the increasing numbers moving into the city from rural areas.
