The Yorkton SaskTel Pioneer club, presented Mikala Whitehawk from St. Mary's School with a plaque as she is the provincial grand prize winner for the Pioneer "Giving Book" program. The books have interesting, colorful and fun learning activities inspiring children to give back to the world. Grade 3 students throughout Saskatchewan submitted a "giving" moment story where they did something to help someone or someone has done something special for them.
Mikala won the Yorkton & District prize of $300 with half given to her and half given to the charity of the her choice which was the Yorkton Salvation Army. Pictured are Captain Bladen, Mikala and Jean Bryski, Yorkton Sasktel Pioneer past president.
There was then a vote by the SaskTel Pioneers across the province for the Grand prize of $1000 for charity. Mikala was chosen as the Grand Prize winner and she has donated the $1000 to The Canadian Cancer Society. Pictured with Mikala is Murray from the Yorkton Canadian Cancer Society. The SaskTel Pioneers would like to thank the school divisions and all of the teachers who allowed them to go into their classroom to introduce this project to their students. And a special thank you and congratulations to Mikala!
