Yorkdale Central School had to be evacuated January 22 because of a sewer backup.
Dwayne Reeve, Good Spirit School Division director of education the problem was the result of a blocked or frozen sewer main. The division brought in Roto Rooter and the blockage was quickly removed, but the administration did not want students and staff in the building until it had been properly sanitized, Reeve said.
Some parents picked up their children, but the majority of the students were bussed to the Gallagher Centre where they carried on, for the most part, with their regular activities, breaking off into their respective classes on the floor of the Flexi-Hall.
Yorkdale principal Shaune Beatty said it was actually easier and less disruptive to move classes to Gallagher than it would have been to try to get everybody home
