The Yorkton Municipal RCMP and Yorkton Rural RCMP detachments are amalgamating into a single detachment effective Feb. 14. Staff Sgt, Jeff Simpson said there will be a press conference on the 14th where he will be able to answer more questions, but the immediate process will see the six regular officers and two administration staff from the rural detachment move into the offices at City Hall creating a single Yorkton detachment.

Additional RCMP support services will remain at the rural detachment location.

Asked if the move could lead to bringing all RCMP in the city under one roof? Simpson said that is not imminent. “Maybe long term possibly,” he said. Simpson said the move is seen as being completely beneficial in bringing the two detachment into a single building, and under a single command structure.

As of the 14th the Yorkton Rural RCMP detachment will no longer have public access and residents will need to either call 306-786-2400, or go to the combined office location at 37 Third Avenue North.
