Awards and scholarships presented at graduation exercises

            Sheila Klebeck and Laura Sliva introduced the graduates as they were escorted by their parents into the arena.

            Britney Vewchar sang O Canada, accompanied by graduates and audience members.

            Graduate Connor Novak gave the valedictory address.

            Graduate Christina Shewchuk introduced the guest speaker, Bill Dodge.

            Graduate Spencer King gave the Student Representative Council presentation which was accepted by Britney Vewchar.

            The awards and scholarships were introduced by Arlene Prestie. 

            "Our community celebrates a significant milestone in the lives of these young men and women,” Prestie said. “Part of the celebration is the awards program which is made possible through the generosity of many organizations and businesses.”

            The recipients of the awards were selected based on applications that the students submitted, and the criteria outlined by the scholarship sponsors.

            Graduate Alex Christopherson received the Preeceville Economic Development Committee Scholarship of $200.

            Graduate Desrai Englot received the Canora and Sturgis Detachment $300 Scholarship. Sgt. Greg Smith made the presentation. Englot also received the Gateway Co-op Scholarship and the Ranching Heritage Scholarship sponsored by TR Performance Horses in the amount of $200.

            Graduate Spencer King received the Preeceville Hospital Auxiliary $500 Scholarship. The memorial scholarship was in memory of past nurses, Marie Phoenix and Esther Paul. King also was presented with the Community Impact Scholarship sponsored by Meagan Barabash.

            Graduate Sydney Giddings received the Preeceville Hospital Auxiliary $300 Scholarship for a student who is entering a health field. Giddings also received the Preeceville Firefighters $100 scholarship.

            Graduate Connor Novak received the Preeceville Ambulance of Merit $500 scholarship. Novak also received English language arts and social studies subject medals.

            Graduate Christina Shewchuk received the Endeavour Home and School $100 scholarship.

            Graduate Kaeley Neitling received the Preeceville School staff $100 Scholarship. Neitling also received the Superannuated Teachers of Saskatchewan, Sturgis branch, $100 scholarship.

            Graduate Hunter Chornomitz was presented with the Tonn Farm's Zimmer Memorial Award of $250. Chornomitz also received the Kim and Arlon Dyky sponsored award of $500 in recognition of the significant investment required in beginning a career associated with the oil industry. Chornomitz also received the physical education subject medal.

            Graduate Braydon Walker received the Crossroads Credit Union Scholarship for $500. Walker was also presented with a math and science subject medal.

            Graduate Lee Schutte was presented with the Simpson Memorial Bursary in the amount of $250. The bursary was established in memory of Bill Simpson. Schutte also received the Preeceville School Community Council $250 scholarship and the Practical Applied Arts subject medal.

            Graduate Brandyn Gogol received the Preeceville Lioness Club Most Improved Student Award in the amount of $200.

            The Governor General's Academic Medal and the W.H Downs Memorial Scholarship were awarded to 2016 graduate Josiah Sorgen. Lisa Wotherspoon, Superintendent of Instruction for the GSSD, made the presentation.

            Doug King, principal, and Wotherspoon presented graduates with scrolls.

            The program concluded with a grand march by graduates and their escorts.
