SASKATOON — Long-time educator Darryl Bazylak joins Métis Nation-Saskatchewan as its new education director starting in July.

Bazylak was born and raised in Saskatoon and is a proud Métis citizen with solid roots in the province’s Duck Lake/Horse Lake region.

He followed in his family’s footsteps and pursued a career in education and, for the past 31 years, has worked with primary-aged students.

Bazylak, retiring as Prairie Spirit School Division’s Director of Education, holds a Bachelor of Arts & Science in English and a Bachelor of Education from the University of Saskatchewan.

He also completed his Master of Educational Foundations in the Indian and Northern Education Program at U of S. He worked for the Greater Saskatoon Catholic School Division for 29 years.

Bazylak has extensive experience in human resources, technology, facilities and operations of schools, including education, training and diverse in-school administrative expertise.

He also has portfolios as a senior administrator and is involved in provincial, national and international educational arenas. His personal and professional priority for over 30 years has been closing the gap in education outcomes for Indigenous students.

He co-chairs the 2030 Provincial Education Plan Implementation Team and sits on the Minister’s Provincial Education Council. He is the past president of the League of Educational Administrators Directors and Superintendents of Saskatchewan and has served on several volunteer community and education Boards.

He is currently active on the Saskatchewan Research Network board, Catholic Health of Alberta and Saskatchewan board, and Chair of the Emmanuel Health Board of Directors.

Bazylak, who enjoys spending time with his family while also playing golf and fishing, lives in Saskatoon with his wife Tracy and daughter Alora. Since Alora was eight, they have kept a tradition of taking a father-daughter fishing trip with friends. His experience, education, and background are an incredible asset to MN-S.

As a Métis Government, MN-S continues to build capacity with strong hires and ambitious, experienced staff who share our vision for the future of the Métis Nation.
