CCS cross-country team competes at Cherrydale meet

            The cross-country team from Canora Composite School was one of many who attended the Cherrydale Cross-Country Meet, held on September 15. Canora Composite School runners competed in Yorkton for their first meet.

            In the sneaker boys category, there were 57 runners participating in a two-kilometre race. Placing eighth in this category was Porter Wolkowski with a time of 9:50. Following close behind were Hunter Lamb and Cole Marcinkoski, who placed ninth with a time of 9:51 and 10th with a time of 9:52 respectively. Other runners included Lucas Latham, who placed 34th with a time of 12:08; Michael Owchar, who placed 37th with a time of 12:45; and Bronson Heshka, who placed 38th with a time for 12:47.

            In the weepee boys category, a three-kilometre race was run by 63 competitors. The three students who competed were Joey Palagian, who placed 24th with a time of 14:51; Toby Olynyk, who placed 37th with a time of 15:13; and Daniel Howell, who placed 40th with a time of 15:23.

            The peewee boys category featured four Canora Composite School students who competed with 37 other racers in a three-kilometre race. Clay Sleeva brought home a silver medal by placing second with a time of 12:20. Other racers included Hudson Bailey, who placed fifth with a time of 12:37; Dawson Zuravloff, who placed seventh with a time of 12:50, and Jason Statchuk, who placed 10th with a time of 13:15.

            In the bantam boys category, which featured 24 runners in a three-kilometre race, Jacob Gulka won third place with a time of 12:31, while Maxwell Mydonick won 18th place with a time of 14:54.

            Emily Owchar, who was the only Canora Composite School runner in the bantam girls category, ran against 15 other students in the three-kilometre race and placed 12th with a time of 16:18.

            In the midget girls three-kilometre race, Kara High beat 10 other runners and was awarded first place for her time of 12:54.

            In the senior girls category, Abby Gulka placed seventh in her four-kilometre race. Her time was 24:31.

            In the senior boys category, Nathan Buscis was awarded first place for his time of 25:22.

            The next cross-country meets that Canora Composite School Students will be attending will be the Deer Park meet on September 21 and the Saltcoats meet on September 30.
