Several district artists are exhibiting their works this month in the 2017 Landscape and Memory Exhibition at the Godfrey Dean Art Gallery in Yorkton.
“We were overwhelmed,” Don Stein, the director of the Gallery, said last week. “In the show, we have over 200 pieces from 60 local artists.”
The 10th annual exhibition of local artists includes works from all ages of artists from Yorkton and communities from Esterhazy to Preeceville, Dean said.
“When we started this exhibition 10 years ago, we knew it was important to showcase local creativity, but we had no idea there was this much to share,” he said, urging people to visit the gallery in June to enjoy the wide-ranging talents in the community.
The exhibition includes artists from Canora, Sturgis, Preeceville and Kamsack.
The acrylic pieces by Val Mohart of Canora are some of the most popular works in the exhibit, Stein said, adding that Mohart has five pieces in the show, four of which have a price of $45 and the fifth, $75.
From Preeceville, Stein was impressed with the work of Chance Anaka and two Anaka children who are seven and nine years of age. Saphira Anaka, 9, has an abstract piece called Jellyfish, while Deagan Anaka, 7, is exhibiting five untitled abstract works.
Sturgis artists featured in the exhibition include Aileen Lubiniecki who has felted wool products; Dana Rae Tureski, who has three graphite pencil on Bristol works priced at $200 each; Sherry Lester has ceramics and paintings, while Elaine J. Meachem has paintings displayed.
Kamsack artists include Brenda Kondratoff, a well-known painter; Dustin Wilson, who has realistic paintings of a 1956 Belair, a 1962 Corvette and a 1949 Chevy truck; Austin Guenther who has two pencil drawings, and Annette Purchase, who is exhibiting several photographs.
The exhibition’s opening was held on June 4.
