The monthly community birthday party was held at the Hut on March 28. A good turnout enjoyed the afternoon. There was a lovely lunch including a tasty birthday cake. Those in attendance having March birthdays were Nina Moller, Ron McAlpine and Joe Kaczur. We hope you all had wonderful birthdays.
Mary Nagy celebrated a birthday she will not soon forget last Sunday. Her family, Curtis, Celina and Cole Nagy and Cheryl and Leon Exner were visiting and they were about to have birthday cake/lunch when someone noticed smoke and a fire in her garage. The garage and contents were lost but the Stockholm Volunteer Fire Dept did a very professional job of saving the house and sheds near by. We are sorry to hear of your loss, Mary, but are glad to hear no one was hurt. Let's hope future birthdays are a bit less exciting! Cheryl and Leon Exner, now of Strathmore, AB, have been back home preparing for the sale of their Grayson property which in turn lead up to holding a 3 day garage sale.
Marilyn Parker from Regina was out driving last Thursday afternoon and made a tour through the village. She was accompanied by her parents, Lawrence and Doris Parker. They stopped at the Hotel to check out their old stomping grounds and had a quick visit with a few people around town before heading back home to Regina.
A few local ladies attended Ladies Night Out in Bangor last Friday evening. The theme this year was School Days and the guests had a very enjoyable evening returning to the classroom. The grand prize was a scholarship for $200. There were innumerable prizes and draws, as well as silent auction items, a delicious supper and games. The Morris Lodge Fundraisers are to be applauded for their work in making it a very memorable evening.
Mrs. Mabel (nee Hutton) Sefton passed away April 1 at the age of 94 in Victoria, BC. She came to Cotham to teach school in the dirty 30's and married the love of her life, Will Sefton. Sympathy from the community goes out to her children: Robert (Shirley), Ted (Joan), Donald, David (Pauline) and Llweyn (James) Friars, 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Condolences to the family of George Tanner of Cowessess First Nation who died suddenly on March 31 at the age of 81. Many People in Dubuc and area remember George from the golf course and Mall coffee shop. He was predeceased by his wife, Justine (Stadel).
Village councillor, Dennis Toth, treated about 2 dozen coffee rowers to a free cup of coffee and also brought some tasty baking to share with everyone. Thanks, Dennis, and we hope you had lots of fun celebrating.
Spring must have sprung! The snowbirds have returned. Alan and Betty Willway from Crooked Lake have returned from their winter home in Donna, Texas. They were away from Dec to March and had a lovely winter with several family visitors and were also able to have a couple visits with Paul and Pearl Flaman of San Antonio. Leon and Susan Powell have also arrived back from their holiday South. They spent over 5 months in Mexico and then travelling towards home through the States. Welcome back, folks, good to have you back home!
We have received news of the passing of Joan (Willway) Maynard of New Port News, Virginia at the age of 79. She was predeceased by her husband and leaves to mourn sons, Alan(Lorrie) and Rick (Laverne) and her brother, Alan (Betty) Willway and their family. Sympathy is extended from your Dubuc friends and neighbours.
