DUBUC - Residents enjoy potluck

Diane Horachek has just returned from a trip to Abbotsford, BC where she attended a memorial service for her cousin's daughter, Cheryl McCormach, who passed away on Dec. 22, 2011 from an overdose of the drug, Ecstasy. Cheryl was 17 years of age taking her Grade 12 at the local highschool. The parents are trying to let the world know that this bad stuff happens to good people/families!!

Congratulations to two of Dubuc's teenagers. Carrie Naylor was the first prize winner of $300 in an essay contest sponsored by The Knights of Columbus and Our House in Esterhazy. Becky Marshall was the second prize winner of $200 in the same contest. We're proud of you, girls!

Word was received this week that Thomas Anderson of Surrey, BC (formerly of Burnaby and Chiliwack) passed away on Sat., Feb. 4 at 91 years of age. Thomas was born at Dubuc in 1920 to Norwegian pioneers, Jens and Kristina Anderson, a little brother to Anna (Earl Johnson), Clarence (Irene) Andersen and Jenny (Wallace Johnson), who all predeceased him. Thomas was predeceased by his wife, Mary, in 1995. He is survived by his son, Ross (Joan) and their daughters, Cathy (Adrian) Anderson and Amy Anderson, all from BC. Sympathy of the community goes out to the Anderson and Johnson families.

Jared, Heidi, Hayden and Nathan Topliss and Chris Topliss all of Yorkton, Joan and Tom Harris of Esterhazy, Jayme Markwart of Regina were out of town guests at a "surprise" family birthday party on Saturday for Ashalee Talbot who turned 6 years old on Feb 4. She also had an after school party for friends on Friday.

Jayme Markwart of Regina rode theSTC bus to Dubuc Friday evening to spend the weekend with her grandparents, Vivian and James Talbot. She attended the birthday party for her cousin, Ashalee, and enjoyed Quading for 5 hours with everyone before returning to Regina on Monday. She caught a ride home with Garland and Elize Thiele and Earle and Nina Moller who were in Regina for Earle's eye appointment.

Best wishes from Dubuc and Community for a wonderful birthday and a happy, healthy year go out to Rose Kopetski, widow of Jake Kopetski, of Toronto, ON. who celebrated her 90th birthday last week. Rose and Jake lived in the Cotham area south of Dubuc when they were first married before moving to Ontario.

The February community potluck supper was held on Wed. at the Hut. Over 2 dozen persons enjoyed the bountiful meal and visiting. Eva Huber and Stuart and Darlene Stevenson from Stockholm were welcome visitors. Mary Nagy was the lucky door prize winner and Bun Flick took home the 50/50 prize. The next potluck will be held on the second Tuesday of March, the fourteenth.

Doug Morley returned Wednesday from a ten day trip to London, ON where he was able to visit with friends and family, especially his brother, Don, who is recovering from some surgery.
