Family grocery store changes hands to new Canora family

A Canora grocery store is now under new management which plans to offer unique products as a fresh take on a classic part of town history.

A Canora grocery store is now under new management which plans to offer unique products as a fresh take on a classic part of town history.

Dennis Foods, previously owned by Terry Dennis and his brother Gerald, is now owned by the Choi family, consisting of Sue Choi and her relative Sam Choi, his wife Ann, and his son Chris.

The grocery store, which opened in Canora in 1947, was sold in early September, but paperwork was completed officially on September 12.

The Choi family is very excited to manage the store. Any customer that enters Dennis Foods now may find his or herself on the receiving end of a hug from Ann or Sue. They said they were very busy with paperwork, but were very happy to begin working and serving the community.

The Chois are originally from Toronto, and ran a convenience store in the city for over 20 years before moving to Canora. The family plans to keep providing the array of fresh food that Dennis Foods has offered customers for 69 years, but they also want to make a few changes.

“We want to make lots of new products and food available,” said Sue, who insists that variety will be a major focus for the store as they continue into the future. “We’re also going to sell flowers outside during the summer.”

The Chois said they are looking forward to welcoming both regular customers and new shoppers during their management.
