The event was hosted by the Parkland Regional Library, Literacy Hub, said Carol Marriott of Kamsack, a literacy co-ordinator for the Library.

“We provided a variety of family literacy activities including alphabet fishing, a story time, colouring for kids and adults, a snack, and giveaways,” Marriott said. There were about 35 in attendance, and prizes consisted of family literacy kits.

Family Literacy Day is a national awareness initiative created by ABC Life Literacy Canada in 1999 and is held annually on January 27 to raise awareness of the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities as a family, she said.
