And, just under $3000 was raised for the SIGN Early Years Family Resource Centre.
The event was made possible by the effort of 40 volunteers and many, many, more helpers and sponsors, noted Donna Brothwell YBID’s executive director.
“We had 32 entries/floats for the parade counting the YBID truck with our 90.5 radio host in it and the one entry that just showed up,” she said.
The Goodie bags were just stuffed this year as well.
“We ran two hours less than last year and saw buses full of peoplean from nursing homes and the pedestrian bus also,” said Brothwell.
“Vehicles seemed to be just stuffed with people and kids that we saw.”
The traffic flowed more smoothly too.
“The holding area at the beginning of the parade all but eliminated the line-up of cars down Broadway but we were prepared for that this year,” said Brothwell. “Our traffic plan included barriers and volunteers at each intersection. Plus, what was on site for the direction of the entries and vehicles going through.”
The Tower Theatre MTL saw 100 people attend the matinee.
Compliments from Staff Sgt Burton of the Yorkton RCMP “have come in and he is very impressed,” added Brothwell.
Looking towards 2022, Brothwell said YBID could use some direction.
“It would be interesting to see if the community would like the parade to stay this way or go back to the original rolling parade?” she said.
