Edward Gibney, formerly of Canora, and Michael Yaremko, formerly of Yorkton, were ordained to the priesthood on June 29 at the Holy Family Cathedral in Saskatoon by Archbishop Don Bolen of Regina Archdiocese.

Many Canora and area residents attended the event, and the reception that followed provided an opportunity to congratulate Rev. Gibney and to receive his blessing.

Archbishop Bolen presented a chalice to Rev. Gibney, the same chalice that had belonged to Edward's Uncle, the late Rev. Charles Gibney. Rev. Gibney, a mentor to then Rev. Bolen, had presented the chalice to Rev. Bolen on the occasion of his ordination.

Rev. Gibney celebrated his first mass at St Philip Neri Parish in Saskatoon and will be posted to Bigger. Rev. Yaremko had his first Mass at St Gerard's, Yorkton, on July 2.

Rev. Gibney was a state deputy of the Knights of Columbus in Saskatchewan from 2010-2012 and completed his seminary training in Rome prior to his ordination.
