After spending 10 days in Europe performing and meeting with industry mavens, a former Kamsack resident thinks the experience will be good for his band.
Craig Aikman and three members of his band The Northern Beauties were invited to perform at Reeperbahn, Germany’s largest club festival in Hamburg, and in Warsaw, Poland, where they met people in the business.
“There was a lot of talking going on,” Aikman said last week after returning to Canada.
He said he was pleased to meet the industry representatives, including one man from a European record label who had said that he was interested in The Northern Beauties.
He presented the possibility of the band returning to Europe for a full-on tour, Aikman said.
“That’s pending on the release of our album next year,” he said.
“The audiences were very receptive to our music,” he said. “They listened attentively.”
Asked how well the guys performed while in Europe, Aikman, admitting that they had “lots of nerves,” said that they did a “good show.”
The food in Poland reminded me of the food in Kamsack, he said, mentioning perogies and sausages. “The food was great.”
The experience of getting out and meeting people in the European music industry was very good, he said.
Aikman and his band will be in Regina October 13 to 16 for the Western Canadian Music Awards. The group is nominated in the Best Roots Duo or Group category and will be performing in the city during the event.
