“What a season!”

Shyla Yannoulis, the assistant coach of the Canora Cougars junior girls volleyball team, used those three words to describe the Cougars’ season following the gold medal win at the Districts tournament on Saturday.

“The junior girls volleyball team consisted this year of 15 girls who each brought her own strengths and individuality to the game to create the dynamic team that took us to Districts,” Yannoulis said. It took hard work in practices, dedication from everyone and strength building that made us a strong team.”

The Cougars played in six tournaments this season, winning four of them, Yannoulis said. However, it was winning the gold before a hometown crowd of Saturday that capped a winning season.

“We could not have done it without the girls’ dedication and the parents’ support,” she said. “Every player on the team contributed in her own way to lead us to the gold – we are so proud.”

Coaching the team this year is Alexandria Blatter.
