Kamsack students win prizes at local level of Legion’s Remembrance Day contest

A total of 66 Kamsack students in grades 4 to 12 shared $516 in prizes they won in the local level of the annual Remembrance Day Poems, Posters and Essay competition sponsored by the Kamsack branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.

            A total of 66 Kamsack students in grades 4 to 12 shared $516 in prizes they won in the local level of the annual Remembrance Day Poems, Posters and Essay competition sponsored by the Kamsack branch of the Royal Canadian Legion.

            For placing first in each grade a student won $10. For second, he or she won $7, and for third, $5, said John Adamyk, the competition’s co-ordinator. Of the local winners, a maximum of 14 entries were advanced to the zone level, and winners at the zone level advanced to the provincial level.

            The local winners were as follows:

            Grade 4, coloured poster, first, Tallyah Cote and Adeeze Ogali; second, Teanna Rafford and Katelyn Gouge, and third, Decoy Severight and Hunter Chernoff. Black-and-white poster, Levi Erhardt and Brooklyn Munroe, and second, Justus Blackwood.

            Grade 5, coloured poster, first, Gerri Basaraba and Aiden Tourangeau; second, Darius Cote and Alexia Tourangeau, and third, Curtis Berezowski and Will Zarchkoff. Poem, first, Talon Severight.

            Grade 6, coloured poster, first, Taryn Thomas and Nevada Cote; second, Tara Taylor, and third, Megan Rafford. Black-and-white poster, first, Rachel Badger and Tristan Chernoff; second, Phoenix Papequash and Eric Moriarty, and third, Kate Erhardt.

            Grade 7, coloured poster, first, Makayla Romaniuk and Derek Cote; second, Conner Bodnarek, and third, Nicolas Bielecki. Black-and-white posters, first, Curtis McGriskin; second, Michelle Tourangeau, and third, Ann Mitchell.

            Grade 8, coloured poster, first, Brooke Schwartz; second, Breanne Maclean, and third, Zachary Zbeetnoff. Black-and-white poster, first, John Bielecki and Brooke Schwartz; second, Cameron Cote and Breanne Maclean, and third, Zachary Zbeetnoff.             Grade 10, poem, first, Maija Rousseau; second, Shani Bear, and third, Lemay Keshane. Essay, first, Wyatt Rosenkranz; second, Madison Wozniczka, and third, Katelynn Allen.
