An elders’ lunch was held last week at the Little Heaven Youth Lounge at Keeseekoose First Nation.
At the event on October 27, a student from each of the grades 6 to 12 classes at Keeseekoose Chiefs Education Centre spoke about the benefits of having such a facility, said Sarah Kakakaway, the volunteer manager of the Lounge.
The students also spoke about how important elders are to a community, Kakakaway said.
The lunch, which had begun with the blessing of the food, included an introduction to the facility and words of welcome by Kakakaway. It continued with comments, questions and group photographs and concluded with prayers by elders and with the blessing of the facility.
A special Halloween dance with different times for different ages was to be held at the lounge on October 30.
