Key First Nation member charged with firearms and trafficking offences

A member of The Key First Nation has been charged with firearms and trafficking offences. On February, 14, at approximately 5 a.m.

A member of The Key First Nation has been charged with firearms and trafficking offences.

On February, 14, at approximately 5 a.m., Kamsack RCMP, with assistance from Canora RCMP, Regina Police Dog Section (PDS) and Yorkton Forensic Identification Services (FIS), executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) warrant at a residence on The Key First Nation north of Kamsack, said a release from the RCMP.

As a result of the warrant, the following charges have been laid against 64-year-old Clarence Papequash: five counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purposes of trafficking; possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized; possession of prohibited ammunition knowing its possession is unauthorized;careless storage of a firearm; careless storage of ammunition, and possession of property obtained by crime.

Papequash was scheduled to be in court on February 22, the release said. He remains in custody, and the investigation is ongoing.
