S/Sgt. Kirk Badger arrived in June from Esterhazy to work as the head of the Kamsack RCMP detachment.

A 14-year veteran of the RCMP who began his career with the force serving in Canora, is the new staff sergeant in charge of the Kamsack detachment.

S/Sgt. Kirk Badger began work in Kamsack on June 29. He succeeds S/Sgt Greg Nichol who was transferred to Yorkton. In the interim, the acting head of the detachment was Sgt. Terry Wilson.

Born and raised in Winnipeg, Badger, graduated from John Taylor High School in Winnipeg in 1989 and attended the University of Winnipeg where he studied justice and law in the sociology department.

After working for the City of Winnipeg transit department, in 2001, he attended the RCMP Academy in Regina and was then posted to Canora. Before being transferred to the Esterhazy detachment two years ago, he had served at Dillon First Nation, Carrot River, Smeaton and Southend, where he was promoted to sergeant.

This marks Badger’s fifth year as a detachment commander and is in charge of the Kamsack detachment of a staff of 20, including 14 constables, two corporals, one sergeant and three office staff members.

He and his wife, Amy, who is the daughter of Harvey Wolowski of Preeceville, a retired member of the RCMP, are the parents of three children: a daughter, Brooke, 6, and twins Luke and Halle, 3.

Badger cites fishing and hunting as two of his more favourite activities. His wife, also a hunter, holds two provincial records for mule deer. He has also taken an interest in curling.

“We love it here,” Badger said when asked about their first impressions of Kamsack. “It’s an amazing town. It’s got everything, the lake is close by and it has awesome people.”
