Annie Chimko of Preeceville celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by family on July 8.

Annie Chimko of Preeceville celebrated her 100th birthday surrounded by family on July 8.

In attendance at the celebrations were her daughters Olga Evans of Preeceville and Jean Kotyk of Buchanan, many grandchildren and her only living sister Mabel Gulka of Preeceville. Family members traveled from Lumsden, Edmonton, Calgary and the local area to help her celebrate her special day.

Chimko was born on July 12, 1917 to Anton and Eva Barteski. She attended Orange Vale School and helped out on the family farm. She married Harry Chimko on September 18, 1937 and the couple settled in the Chechow district.

The couple farmed and raided three children, two daughters, Olga (Evans), Jean (Kotyk) and one son, Mike.

After her husband Harry passed away, Chimko retired to Preeceville in 1975. She remains in her own home and is still active in cooking meals, watching television and shovelling her own sidewalk in the winter.
