Preeceville Skate with Santa event said a huge hit

Skate with Santa

Children and adults alike enjoyed skating alongside Santa Claus in the Skate with Santa event in Preeceville on December 2.

“It was a great time for everyone,” said Andrea Tonn, recreation co-ordinator. “There were close to 100 kids who saw Santa with another 50 or so on the ice. The hotdogs, oranges and candy canes that were distributed were provided by the Preeceville economic committee. Children who sat on Santa’s lap were encouraged to get a personalized decorated sugar cookie provided by Preeceville Shop Easy.”

The cookies were prepared special by Darin Newton and Mark Bourassa, said Tonn. Crossroads Credit Union provided doughnuts and hot chocolate and helped to serve at the event. Amanda Balyski from the Preeceville Board of Trade and Olivia Chornomitz decorated the cookies.

“For those who didn’t bring skates, the arena had a box of spare skates that were well utilized,” said Arlee Thideman, caretaker. “We are about the only rink around that has this feature.”

Before Santa laced up his skates, he encouraged children to come and sit on his knee while they discussed their Christmas wishes with him. All the children received a special treat bag by Santa and his helpers.

When Santa took to the ice, he was swarmed by children and adults alike, all wanting to skate alongside him before he had to return to the North Pole. He paused during numerous moments to listen to children’s requests and for a few pictures on the ice much to the delight of the children.

“I really enjoyed my time here in Preeceville and the opportunity to spend some time with numerous children in the area,” said Santa.

The Preeceville School students, youth council and other students helped to ensure the afternoon was a fun day.
