Town council deals with speed bumps and needle disposal

Speed bumps and the disposal of needles were among items to concern town council at its regular meeting of August 17.

Speed bumps and the disposal of needles were among items to concern town council at its regular meeting of August 17.

Council directed public works staff to make changes to the locations and setup of speed bumps so that the bumps on Queen Elizabeth Boulevard West are relocated so that drivers cannot use the approaches to the former Turbo station to go around them and ensure that the speed bumps are appropriately signed and that the bumps on Dixon Avenue by the Kamsack Comprehensive Institute be widened so that vehicles cannot go around them. The speed bumps on the boulevard east and on West Avenue by Victoria School were to be left as they are.

It was agreed to advise Sunrise Public Health that council is in agreement with the installation of a needle disposal container. Council asked that if a unit smaller than the unit shown in the photos was available, such a unit would be preferred. Sunrise staff members are to be responsible for emptying the unit, but Kamsack staff would pour the concrete for a pad onto which the unit would be placed.

The unit is to be placed at the back of the town-owned property at 432 Second Street.

Approval for the purchase of 344 Hawthorn for $100 by Frances Kathleen Danielson was granted and permission was given for the property to be consolidated with an adjacent lot.
