Preeceville residents had the opportunity to voice their opinions concerning the type of development or redevelopment they want to see in the community in the next 10 to 15 years.
The public open house was held at the Preeceville Club 60 on February 8.
Karen Sander from a planning consulting firm was on hand to discuss and accept input from residents.
"The town initiated a planning review project prior to adopting a new official community plan and zoning bylaw project to better manage development within the community," said Shirley Jackson, administrator. "In order to update our zoning bylaw, the Province requires us to adopt a official community plan.
“To help us in this endeavour we hired Tim Cheesman and his planning team to prepare a plan and zoning bylaw," she said.
The open meeting was held to get the community’s input to what type of development or redevelopment is wanted in the community in the next 10 to 15 years.
"The zoning bylaw is out-dated and does not reflect the changing needs of the town and provides no direction on growth," Jackson said. "The benefit of having an overall plan with action items is that it will assist the council in planning a cost effective infrastructure and balancing residential, commercial, recreation and industrial development.
"This is just the beginning process and the main issue that kept coming up during the open house was senior housing and the hospital,” Jackson said. “The next stage is for the planning consultants to put all the input together, have a meeting with stakeholders and different groups in the town and come back to the community with the findings.”
