SASKATOON – The eighth Manitoba-Northwest Ontario-Minnesota-Saskatchewan (MOMS) medical history conference is taking place Oct. 21-23 at the University of Saskatchewan.
A highlight of this year’s event is Dr. Jacob Steere-Williams’ (PhD) keynote address on Friday, Oct. 21, at 4:30 p.m. titled Pandemic Pasts, Endemic Futures: The Politics of Disease Categories, where the College of Charleston associate professor will discuss the meaning and use of the word ‘endemic..
Before the keynote, at 3:30 p.m., there will be a poster session sharing findings on COVID-19’s impact on people in Saskatchewan and lessons we can learn from the pandemic.
Other panel discussions throughout the weekend will cover a variety of topics, including: Computers, Canola & Contamination: How Human Health Interacts with Changing Technologies; Remembering Pandemics: Lessons and Pitfalls; and Witchcraft, the Supernatural and Colonial Spaces of Control.
