Vandalism on West Side of Bridge

Town says east side parking coming soon

The Outlook RCMP is looking for any information the public may have after a pair of traffic signs were vandalized on the west side of the orange walking bridge near Outlook.

Graffiti paint was used to block out wording on two signs that directed people to park their vehicles on the east side of the bridge to gain access.  One sign originally stated, “Public Parking Available on East Side of Bridge”, and it was spray-painted over to simply read, “Public Parking Available”.  Another sign stating that the road was a private driveway was painted to simply read, “Driveway”.

The incident is said to have happened at some point over the Victoria Day long weekend, specifically between Friday and Sunday.

The vandalism is more than likely the result of the ongoing issue of access on either side of the orange walking bridge, which has been a hot-button topic in the community.

For their part, the Town of Outlook is focusing their efforts on upgrading access on the east side of the bridge, due to the situation surrounding the west side largely being a matter between the RM of Fertile Valley, the Ministry of Highways and the private property owner.  As learned at the most recent council meeting, the town was expected to receive a letter shortly from the Ministry of Highways giving approval to begin work on providing vehicle parking and improved public access on the east side of the structure.

However, the Town is concerned about the vandalism on the west side, and it was said that the signs would be looked at and cleaned in the hopes that the graffiti could be removed.

Anyone with information on the traffic sign vandalism is asked to contact the Outlook RCMP or Saskatchewan Crime Stoppers.

UPDATE:  At the time this article was being published in the print edition of The Outlook, the signs had been cleaned.
