YORKTON - The Melville Food Bank received literally a ‘truck full’ of food Dec. 22 thanks to the Hyundai Yorkton holiday food drive.

General Sales Manager Kimberly Hamilton said the effort is one of many the dealership has held over the years to provide support for organizations such as the food bank.

The most recent effort simply asked people to pop in with a non-perishable food item to help fill the vehicle. Donators had their names put into a draw for a vehicle detailing as a little thank you.

The food donation is “very important,” said Melville facility president Colleen Gorecki. “This will have a real big impact ...

“It’s so important we have companies willing to help like this.”

Gorecki said the food bank serves a huge area; Balcarres to Esterhazy to Ituna and Grenfell.

So are requests increasing?

“Very much so, especially with seniors,” said Gorecki, who added the donation would help address the expected need in January as Christmas bills put pressure on family budgets.
