UPDATED: Bikes fly at Millstone Raceway in Yorkton

The next races are scheduled for July 23 in Regina.

YORKTON - It was a day of big jumps, big noise and big dirt as motocross racers hit the Millstone Raceway Track in Yorkton.

The races which included youngsters, women and a plus-50 class are part of a series of races held around the province under the Saskatchewan Motocross Association.

“It was a huge, successful weekend. I’m very proud of our club,” said Yorkton Motocross Club president Denaye Arnett.

The YMC organized the event locally, with volunteers putting in many hours cutting grass, grooming and watering the track and other work in preparation for the arrival of 257 racers. Over the day 800 went through the gate Sunday.

Arnett said the turn out was strong in part because the race is part of a provincial circuit many racers follow.

“They follow the series and get points per round,” she said, adding the points go toward season-end awards through the provincial association.

At the Yorkton races there were some new faces riding too, noted Arnett. She said a number of local riders who had not competed before entered, which is great to see, adding it is a sport that sees competitors as young as four, and there is a 50-plus class too.

“It’s a sport everybody can do,” she said.

Races in the provincial series were previously held in Assiniboia, Swift Current and Weyburn in May, and earlier in June in Moose Jaw.

The next races are scheduled for July 23 in Regina.
