The Canora Senior Bonspiel, held from January 15-18 at the Sylvia Fedoruk Centre, saw Canora teams take first and second place in the final standings.
A total of 17 teams took part in the friendly competition, said organizer Vern Schick. The field included seven teams from Canora and 10 from nearby communities including Kamsack, Preeceville, and Norquay.
Each team played five games, and scores were kept according to the Brandon Draw system, where four points are awarded for each win and two points are awarded for each end where a team scores.
First place went to the rink skipped by Ernie Gazdewich of Canora. Other members of the team were Darryl Stevenson at third, Darryl’s wife Vickie at second, and Natalie Trebick was the lead.
The Darryl Rock rink of Canora placed second in the bonspiel. The team members were: Rock at skip, Clarence Homeniuk placed third, Leona Wolkowski at second and Liz Matechuk was the lead.
The draw to the button contest and $50 that went with it, went to Lynnette Seversen of Norquay.

Del Palagian donated the $100 first prize for the team version of the draw-to-the-button competition in memory of her late husband Ted. The winning rink was skipped by Joyce MacLean of Kamsack. Other team members were: Florence Bielecki at third, Peter Cherwenuk played second, and Anne Hudye was the lead.
The award for the oldest team at the bonspiel went to the rink skipped by Arlene Smorodin of Kamsack, with Norma Chernoff at third, Marj Orr at second and Jean Rose played the lead position.
